Driving to our office this morning, and seeing that the trucks are now paving Deltona Blvd. did make me think. They have already re-paved Nightwalker. I come from NY and we do not have potholes in Hernando County and these roads were just fine. I don’t see the necessity of paving roads that don’t need paving.
However, I do see a real necessity to pave lime roads in Royal Highlands. I love to see that we are employing workers to pave, but why not pave Royal Highlands where people do not want to move because of the dust. There are brand new homes sitting vacant up there that many a family could afford, and would move there if we just paved the roads. This is the time for people to buy, but it is a real turn-off and a health issue for some to move to the Royal Highlands. We have a brand new high school going up there and bringing young families into the area, would be wonderful.
I do not believe I have the answer to everything but this makes sense to me. What do you think?
Have a great day and enjoy!

Road paving is done with impact fees. Impact fees can only be used on collector and arterial roads. The limerock roads are residential. Perhaps if fewer realtors had sold lots and homes in Royal Highlands with false promises of road paving, we would not see this question over and over again. My taxes should not be used on somebody else’s limerock road. We have a program in the county where residents can petition to have a road paved if they agree to split two-thirds of the cost. The county picks up the other one-third as an estimate of what limerock maintenance would cost over future years. This is fair to landowners and all taxpayers. Kwitcher bitchin’, please!

From what I have gathered, the intentions of the county are to pave all of RH due to the limestones not being a healty “Green” to our environment. Once upon a time Spring Hill roads were not paved as well. I do not believe Realtors are to blame for the amount of lots and homes sold with false promises. That area was saturated with investor buys who wanted to make a quick flip. They did not care if the roads were paved or not, what color the home was, etc. However they have been paving Thrasher and that is a start.
I agree that RH is a fantastic area and I believe it is the up and coming especially with the beautiful two story brick High School. Yes, you will have dust but for $100k home on .50 acre lot and most never lived in, I’m in!
