Alright, so you want to see the Avon Park Air Force Base? Well, the actual name is Avon Park Air Force Range. The difference is the word “range”. This is a bombing range, so you really need to be one tough ape to want to live here. If you can talk the US Air Force into it, we’d love to see what kind of bunker you put up that can stand the pounding they give.

The range is actually open to the public from Thursday afternoon through the weekend to Monday morning and features some nice places to go fishing and hiking. There are fees, and there are times when some of the public areas might be closed due to military exercises. What ever you do, pay strict attention to the signs that warn of potential danger due to live ordinance. For those who don’t know what that means, just imagine the following sounds: “Click. BOOM!” and add in the picture of ape bits raining down. Stay away from those areas and enjoy your visit.
