With over 400 miles of canals, Cape Coral holds the world's record for the most water ways in a developed urban environment. The city sits just south of Fort Myers and directly on Florida's Gulf Coast. The neighborhood know as Cape Coral South is the city's most eastern side and also has the heaviest ratio of canals to streets. These canals have direct access to the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River and the Gulf of Mexico.
