Cities in Franklin County FL
This is a tiny Florida Gulf town of around 1,300 folks who welcome tourists and the ape with an eye towards becoming part of the town known all over the world. If you haven’t heard of Carrabelle, you must not be much on history and Americana! This is the home of the world’s smallest police station! It’s so famous that one visitor tried to load it into the back of his pick-up and steal it. No, we’re not joking.
There is more to this town along the Gulf coast. The best way to get there and see how the term “sleepy little town” came about, you head to Tallahassee and take the road south towards the coast and when you get to route 30, head west. The total trip time is an hour. Once you get to Carrabelle, ask how to get to Dog Island. We’re not sure why it’s called that, but on the short boar ride there you can ask the local who gave you directions. The island is an amazing little dot of land surrounded by waters untouched by the recent problems with oil in the Gulf and the sand is often described as “sugar white”. That, along with the short drive time to other beaches and small museum dedicated to the soldiers who trained for amphibious warfare during World War II, are just part of the charm of Carrabelle. Once you get there, you’ll understand why so many apes make a point of stopping there. Do you have something to add about this City?
