Chipley Florida in Washington County originally bore the name Orange. In 1882, the year the Pensacola & Atlantic Railroad was completed) the city was renamed for the then Florida State Senator William D. Chipley. For tea-toting apes, bear in mind that Washington County remains dry (as it has been since 1899)
In the early 1900s Chipley became somewhat famous for a large religious revival headed by George Cates. Of the city’s then 1500 apes, over 700 converted!
Today Chipley comprises about 4 square miles of land with a low crime index and a heavy construction sector. State route 90 runs through the heart of this little town, that’s currently home to about 3500 apes. Do you have something to add about this City?
