Cross Creek, Florida is best known for being the home of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Many of her books, including The Yearling, were written in Cross Creek. The Yearling, a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1939, was written about a boy who adopts a young fawn and was later made into a movie. Her home is still open to residents and visitors alike.

Cross Creek is the connection place of Orange Lake and Loclossa Lake, providing some of the best fishing in the area.
