Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park, Cross Creek, Florida - Video of the Interior of the writer's home. Cross Creek, Florida is best known for being the home of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. Many of her books, including The Yearling, were written in Cross Creek. The Yearling, a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1939, was written about a boy who adopts a young fawn and was later made into a movie. Her home is still open to residents and visitors alike. Cross Creek is the connection place of Orange Lake and Loclossa Lake, providing some of the best fishing in the area. Beware of the enchantment that encompasses Cross Creek, it has the tendency to make visitors take up residence in one of the many cottages along the creek and stay for a spell. Perhaps even dine at the Yearling Restaurant, voted one of the best restaurants in Florida by Florida Trend Magazine. The Yearling prides itself on serving cuisine from today's era as well as cuisine from the 1900's. Items on the menu include Venison, Cooter, Froglegs, Quail, Stuffed Flounder, Deep Fried Clams and even Alligator! Looking for that Old Florida charm? Cross Creek can offer that; and more!
