Davenport, Florida was founded around 1883. The origins of the name are controversal. Some say that the settlement was named after a train conductor named Davenport on the Old South Florida Railroad, while others claim the settlement was named in honor of Colonel William Davenport, a military officer that was the commander of a military camp during the Second Seminole war. Currently the home to over 1,900 residents, Davenport continues to grow due to the convenient location of being only 10 miles from the major theme park, Walt Disney World!
