Cities in Polk County FL
It was in 1919 that a businessman from Lake Wales, BK Bullard, bought 3,000 acres of land in the Central Florida area. Bullard hired a gentleman by the name of Irwin Arthur Yarnell to stand as his real estate agent and advertiser. Yarnell and his lovely bride were co-owners of F.E. Fairchild in the Southern Land Company. The Yarnell?s had many friends in Highland Park, Illinois which prompted the name of this settlement that they both were working so hard to build. Many of the early residents of Highland Park, Florida were Quakers that were brought down to the area by Alfred Major, a salesman working with Yarnell. These Philadelphia Quakers were brought to Highland Park as prospective land owners. For each membership to the Highland Park Club, 10 acres of Highland Park land was given to the new member. For businessmen this meant 10 acres of incredible citrus groves that would transform into profit! By 1923 Yarnell had made quite a large sum of money, enough that he paid off the mortgage to the city of Highland Park and became the new owner of the city. During this year he built La Casa de Josephina, a 25-room mansion and gift to his second wife, Josephine. The mansion was built on a hilltop that overlooked the entrance to his newly owned city. This eclectic casa became the backbone of the incredible city of Highland Park, Florida. By 1927, Highland Park became incorporated and began to grow into the wondrous city that stands today! Today Highland Park is home to nearly 300 residents. With Lake Amoret and Lake Easy encompassing the area, the water recreation in Highland Park is in abundance. Fishing, swimming, paddling and boating can be accomplished around every corner! Built in 1927 the Highland Park Hills Inn and Golf Club provides golfers with chances at 18-holes on a rolling course with over 100 feet of elevation changes! Being one of the five original golf courses in the state of Florida, Highland Park Hills Inn and Gulf Club features a restaurant with a full bar, rental equipment and real estate options along side of the course itself! Relocating to Highland Park, Florida provides ample opportunities for purchasing luxury homes, land lots, single family residences and waterfront property. With a history so incredible, the future of this fine city can only be filled with an incredible sense of community and partnership! Do you have something to add about this City?
