Legend says that an Old Indian Chief, Chief Clica-Si from the Ocala area, became very ill. The Medicine Man that was taking care of the chief became fearful that his time was short and sent for his brother Chief Nu-Wa. Chief Nu-Wa was aware of healing spring that was some distance away to the west and gathered his fellow braves and carried his brother toward the western waters in search of the spring. Once the braves located the spring, beyond the many rocks on the beach, and fed Chief Clica-Si from the spring, its healing properties took over and the Chief regained his health rather quickly. From that day on, and every year after the tribe would travel to this spring for a taste of it's healing waters. This is the legend of how Indian Rocks received its name; the spring is long gone but the legend still remains. Originally known as Indian Rocks Beach South Shore, Indian Shores is one of the oldest and smallest beach communities in the state! Incorporated in 1949, Indian Shores is only 2 1/2 miles long, however, within these 2 1/2 miles lays one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Do you have something to add about this City?
