Cities in Baker County FL
Macclenny, Florida was known as Darbyville, due the Darby family owning much of the land in the area. It was Carr Bowers MacClenny that made history change when marrying into the Darby Family and making enough land deals that name was changed from Darbyville to Macclenny. Macclenny became the Baker County seat in 1886 when it was moved from Sanderson; a year later the town became incorporated. Macclenny grew with the cotton and corn industry and remains a large nursery industry today. Located only 35 miles from the big city of Jacksonville, Macclenny remains a small old southern town, full of history and life. Heritage Park reminds us of the rich history of the area through replicas of the old buildings and businesses that created the foundation for modern day Macclenny.
