When you look at the map of Florida, Lake Okeechobee is in the southern third of the state. On that lake's south western end there is a town called Moore Haven where 1,700 folk live and work. Once one of Florida's boom towns, they were pretty badly affected by hurricanes in 1926 and 1928. Since then, folks have adapted to living on the shores of Florida's largest fresh water lake and enjoying the farmlands around them.

When you want to take a look around Moore Haven, it is actually easier to head in from Fort Myer's airport and drive an hour and a quarter straight east rather than go into spots to the west and have to go around the lake.
