Nestled in between the city of Sarasota and city of Venice is the charming little town of Nokomis, Florida. Nokomis history began in 1868 when Jessie Knight and his family of 15 children and 300 cows strolled into the area and constructed their home and a church/school building called Knights Chapel. Nokomis was originally a part of Venice, up until 1910 when Bertha Honore Palmer, a wealthy widow from Chicago, relocated to the area and purchased 140,000 acres for land development. The original Venice Post Office was located in Nokomis! The influence of Bertha Palmer brought the railroad to the area and established a railroad terminal near Roberts Bay. Bringing the railroad to the community brought many land development options as well. Nokomis is the home to over 3,000 residents most who were brought to the area by the striking sandy white beaches and breathtaking sunsets from the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Located on the Gulf brings ample opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, jet skiing and sun bathing! Nokomis Beach Park offers a public boat ramp and jetties that make for a fulfilling day of fishing! The town of Nokomis is such a small town that the local residents take pride in knowing one another and find that small town charm is a great way of life! Real estate options vary, however most of the town is either on the water or nearby it, therefore, waterfront homes are in abundance in the Nokomis, Florida area.
