Cities in Osceola County FL

St. Cloud, Florida, named in honor of St. Cloud, Minnesota was originally founded by Hamilton Disston from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Disston would come to the area on fishing trips with Henry Shelton Sanford, the gentleman who founded Sanford, Florida, in the 1870s. Disston constructed and established the St. Cloud Sugarcane Plantation and opened the Sugar Belt Railway as a means of transporting his product to the southern part of the state. The plantation was only in operation for eight years when the Great Freeze destroyed Disstons crop and drove him back to the state of Pennsylvania. In 1909, 35 thousand acres of land were bought by the Seminole Land and Investment Company who placed William G. King, a real estate manager from Alachua County, Florida, in charge of developing a town that would serve as a colony for veteran soldiers. On June 1, 1915 St. Cloud was incorporated into a city.

Today St. Cloud, Florida provides a home to over 24,000 residents. Lake Tohopekaliga, located in St. Cloud, is not only the largest lake in Osceola County, but it also offers some of the best bass fishing in the state of Florida. These two lakes provide ample opportunities for fishing, boating, paddling, swimming and some old fashioned Florida water fun!
