Cities in Washington County FL
Vernon in Washington County Florida is home to nearly 800 apes. And this is a place with very interesting history. Apparently during the 50s and 60s numerous residents lost limbs and put in so many insurance claims that investigators began to wonder if people were intentionally dismembering themselves! This situation became the focus of a documentary by Errol Morris in 1981.
Vernon was named after George Washington’s home. It started out as a pioneer settlement. Today the two main forms of employment are education and construction.
