Highlands County is the most centrally located county on the Florida peninsula. It is the highest elevation in the peninsula and the combination of location and geography gives rise to numerous lakes and perfect transition from one coast to the other. The county makes you the center point for all things Florida. Wearing alligator costumes and drinking orange juice is not mandatory, but it’s a fun thing to tell new arrivals.
