Cities in Levy County FL

Levy County, named in honor of David Levy Yulee, first US Senator from Florida, was established in 1845 from a portion of Alachua County. Yulee contributed to the construction of the first railroad in Florida, The Florida Railroad Company. The 155 mile long railroad that once ran from Fernandina Beach to Cedar Key was completed in 1861. Once the railroad partially closed down during the Civil War, it never reestablished itself as a lone entity; the railroad merged with other lines and soon thereafter became Seaboard Air Line Railroad. During this time Cedar Key was an important produce port for the state. Produce that was shipped from the northern states came to the area via the Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico and finally into Cedar Key.

Today Levy County is home to cities such as Bronson, Cedar Key, Chiefland, Fanning Springs, Inglis, Morriston, Rosewood, Otter Creek, Williston and Yankeetown. Located on Florida's Nature coast, Levy County provides outdoor recreation abound, with springs, creeks, rivers and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico within its boundaries. The Suwannee River finds its way into 7 of the 11 counties in Northern Florida, providing 62 separate springs along its route to the Gulf of Mexico. Fanning springs and Manatee springs provide access to some of the most magnificent cave diving and swimming along the river. A vein into the heart of Levy County is the Waccassassa River, offering paddlers, swimmers, fishing, boating and hunting and opportunity to explore vast coastal wilderness. Levy County is a Mecca of antique shops, fishing charters, horseback riding and golf courses providing a challenge to even the most adept of golfers.

Relocating to Levy County promises a life filled with nature, heritage, education and laughter. Waterfront property, single family homes, condominiums, land lots and acreage are only part of the diversity offered through the real estate in the area.
