Orange FL Homes for Sale Orange County Florida Real Estate
Cities in Orange County Florida
Originally known as part of Mosquito County, Orange County was not considered its own entity until 1845, named in honor of the abundance of citrus that grew in the area. Citrus was the main industry in Citrus County; reaching its peak in the 1970's, the citrus industry covered well over 80,000 acres of the county. However, a majority of the groves in the area soon fell prey to the freezes in the early 1980's, making the citrus industry second to the tourist industry. Walt Elias Disney, creator of the magnificent Disneyland in Anaheim California, never believed that there would be another Disneyland. When the realization came that there just wasn't enough land to fulfill his dream of a theme park that "e;would never be completed -- as long as there is imagination in the world"e; he secretly began to purchase land in the Orange County, Florida area in the year of 1964. Unfortunately, Walt Disney died in 1966 and was unable to see what had become of the secret land purchases in Florida. Walt's Brother Roy took over the company and began the construction of Walt Disney World. Roy Disney retired shortly after the opening of Walt Disney World and Card Walker took over the company up until 1984. Walker did nothing to entice the life of Walt Disney World during the time that he was in charge, other than turn both parks into nothing more than a museum to the life and times of Walt Elias Disney. Once Walker had stepped down, many changes took place, ultimately leading to Roy Disney's son, Roy Disney, becoming the Vice-Chairman of the Walt Disney Company and bringing these two amazing theme parks back to life!
