Cities in Union County FL
Union County Florida, named in an effort to honor the concept of unity, was created in 1921 from a portion of Bradford County. Union County is the smallest county in Florida.
The county seat, Lake Butler, was built in part by early settlers such as Capt. York, Joseph P. Richard, F.M. Rivers and W.C. Townsend. Both the lake and the town were named in honor of Colonel Robert Butler, the first Surveyor General of the Florida Territory. The little town of Lake Butler began to prosper in the late 1800's when depots were built in the city for the Georgia Southern and the Florida Railroad.
Raiford, a small community in the northern part of Union County, was founded in the 1800's by Hunter Warren Raiford and incorporated twice, the last time in 1971.
Worthington Springs is a small rural community located on the southern border of Union County.
Union County has maintained its rural standing and is a great place to relocate for one who is looking for farm land and acreage.
